Background of the Study
In an era of rapid globalization, the preservation of indigenous culture has become a priority for many communities, particularly in regions where traditional practices face the threat of dilution. In Kabo Local Government Area, Kano State, informal education serves as a vital medium for transmitting indigenous knowledge and cultural values to younger generations. Informal educational approaches—through community storytelling, traditional art workshops, cultural festivals, and local mentorship—allow students to engage with and appreciate their heritage in a manner that is both immersive and interactive (Abdullahi, 2023; Musa, 2024). These methods create a learning environment that fosters respect for traditional practices and promotes a deeper understanding of the community’s history and values. In Kabo, the integration of indigenous culture into informal learning experiences provides students with the opportunity to connect with elders, learn indigenous languages, and understand the symbolism behind local rituals and crafts. This process not only enriches their cultural identity but also encourages a sense of pride and belonging. Moreover, informal education offers a counterbalance to the dominant global narratives that often overshadow local traditions. By highlighting indigenous knowledge systems, students are exposed to alternative worldviews that emphasize community, sustainability, and harmony with nature (Sani, 2025). Despite its benefits, there are challenges in ensuring that the transmission of indigenous culture through informal education is systematic and comprehensive. Factors such as urbanization, modern technology, and the commercialization of culture can interfere with traditional teaching methods. Consequently, the role of informal education in cultural preservation must be continuously evaluated and adapted to remain effective. This study aims to examine how informal education in Kabo enhances students’ appreciation of indigenous culture. Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative analyses, the research will assess the strengths and weaknesses of current cultural programs and propose strategies to ensure that indigenous knowledge remains an integral part of the educational experience. The study is intended to contribute to the discourse on cultural preservation in educational settings and provide recommendations for integrating indigenous culture into modern curricula without compromising its authenticity (Bello, 2024).

Statement of the Problem
The rapid pace of modernization and the influence of global culture pose significant challenges to the preservation of indigenous traditions in Kabo. Although informal education has been recognized as an effective tool for cultural transmission, its current application in Kabo is fragmented and lacks coherence. Many students have limited exposure to indigenous cultural practices, leading to a gradual erosion of traditional values. This gap is exacerbated by the absence of structured programs that systematically integrate indigenous knowledge with modern educational practices. Additionally, external influences such as urban migration and digital media contribute to a cultural disconnect among youth (Musa, 2024). Educators and community leaders report that the informal channels used to transmit cultural heritage are often underfunded and inadequately supported by policy frameworks. The result is a diminished capacity among students to appreciate and uphold indigenous traditions. This study seeks to identify the barriers that hinder effective cultural education in Kabo and to explore how informal educational initiatives can be optimized to reinforce indigenous cultural appreciation. It will examine the roles of community involvement, traditional knowledge bearers, and local educational practices in promoting cultural continuity. By addressing these challenges, the study aims to provide a robust framework that will enhance the preservation of indigenous culture through informal education. The research will combine field observations, interviews, and survey data to develop actionable recommendations for stakeholders, thereby ensuring that indigenous cultural practices are sustained for future generations (Abdullahi, 2023).

Objectives of the Study
